Controls and smart lighting
Modern LED systems are designed to work with a wide range of control options that extend energy savings further. Occupancy sensors ensure lighting is only active when spaces are in use which is particularly useful in areas with variable occupancy such as corridors, storage areas, meeting rooms, and welfare facilities. Daylight harvesting uses sensors to dim artificial lighting in proportion to available natural light, maintaining consistent illumination while reducing consumption. Dimming capability across zones allows lighting levels to be adjusted for different tasks and times of day.
At the more sophisticated end, smart lighting systems can integrate with building management systems, providing granular usage data, enabling scheduled control, and supporting remote management across multiple sites. Whether the right solution is a simple presence-sensor upgrade or a fully networked lighting control system depends on the site and the business's objectives. Emergency lighting: compliance you can't overlook
Any upgrade project is also an opportunity to review emergency lighting provision. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, businesses have a duty to ensure adequate emergency lighting is installed, maintained, and regularly tested. Emergency lighting that was compliant under a previous installation may need to be reviewed when luminaire layouts change as part of an LED conversion.

What does an LED upgrade actually involve?
The process starts with a lighting survey to assess your existing installation and to understand how different areas of your facility are used. This all helps to identify what you want to achieve from the upgrade. From that, we produce a specification and quotation that sets out the proposed solution, the expected energy savings based on your current consumption, and the projected payback period.
Installation is planned to minimise disruption to your operations. In many cases, LED conversions can be completed in sections, keeping the majority of your facility fully lit throughout the project. Where a complete shutdown is preferable, we will always try to work to your schedule as best we can.
All work is carried out to BS 7671 and accompanied by the appropriate electrical installation certificates. Where DALI or other control systems are involved, commissioning is included and we provide handover documentation so your facilities team understands how to use and adjust the system.
Is an LED upgrade right for your business?
