Gloucestershire Electrician Fined £8,000 for Non-Compliant Work

A South Gloucestershire electrician has been fined £8,000 for carrying out electrical work that does not comply with Part P of the Building Regulations.

David Appleton was handed down the fine at Bristol Magistrates Court as a result of carrying out substandard electrical work at two properties.

NAPIT (The National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers) had been asked by South Gloucestershire Council to carry out inspections on the properties after the council’s Building Control Department became suspicious.  The investigation uncovered a number of major electrical faults, some of which could have led to the occupants being placed in danger.

Professional Electrician & Installer  website quoted David Cowburn, NAPIT’s Chief Operating Officer, as saying “I hope it sends a clear message that non-compliance with the Building Regulations is unacceptable. This case also serves as a reminder that using qualified and competent electricians to undertake work can help to stop dangerous situations like these from arising.”
