Did you know you can use the Workplace Charging Scheme to reduce the cost of installing electric car charging points for your business?
The WCS is a government scheme for electric vehicles offered by the Office of Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV). Similar to the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme, the Government offers businesses, organisations, charities and local authorities financial support to have electric charge points installed at their premises through the scheme.
The WCS reduces the purchase and installation cost of a new charging point by 75% – this is capped at £350 per socket. A business can claim for up to a maximum of 40 charge points, this could be 40 single sockets or 20 double socket charge points.
How do you qualify for the Workplace Charging Scheme?
The scheme is available to any business, charity or public authority, however, there are certain conditions including:
- You must have sufficient off-street parking.
- Whilst you do not need to currently have electric vehicles as part of your fleet, you will need to show an interest and need for the business in the future.
- The charging points must be installed by an OLEV approved installer like MeKo Electrical.
How does the Workplace Charging Scheme work?
The scheme is a voucher-based system. Firstly, you will need to complete an online application. If you are successful, you will be emailed a voucher code which you can OLEV approved installer – they will then claim the grant once the installation is complete. The voucher is valid for 120 days from the date of issue.
